Sprite Animator – Pixel Art Animation & GIF Maker

Create animated pixel-art sprites: draw a frame, add or duplicate frames, line them up with onion skinning and watch the live preview. Export an animated GIF, a sprite sheet or individual frames.

1×
Frame 1 / 1

32 × 32 px. Pinch with two fingers to zoom.

How to use it

  1. Draw your first frame with the pixel tools.
  2. Duplicate the frame (or add a blank one) and change what moves.
  3. Keep onion skin on to see the neighbouring frames faintly while you draw.
  4. Set the speed in the preview panel.
  5. Download a GIF, a sprite sheet PNG or a ZIP of frames.

Common Use Cases

  • Game character walk cycles
  • Animated emoji and stickers
  • Loading spinners and UI effects

A free sprite animator in your browser

Game sprites, animated emoji and retro GIFs all start the same way: a small pixel grid, drawn one frame at a time. This sprite animator gives you the essentials, with a pixel editor, a frame strip, onion skinning and a live preview, with nothing to install.

How to animate a sprite

  1. Pick a canvas size. 16×16 and 32×32 are classic sprite sizes, and 64×64 gives more room for detail.
  2. Draw the first frame with the pencil, fill, line and shape tools. Mirror mode helps with symmetrical characters.
  3. Duplicate the frame and change only what moves. That is the fastest way to keep a character consistent between frames.
  4. Turn on onion skin to see the previous frame faintly under the current one, so motion lines up.
  5. Watch the live preview and adjust the speed (frames per second) until the motion feels right. Walk cycles usually look good at 8–12 fps.

Export options

  • Animated GIF: for sharing on social media or chat. Choose a transparent, white or black background.
  • Sprite sheet PNG: all frames in one row, ready for game engines like Unity, Godot or GameMaker.
  • ZIP of frames: every frame as its own PNG.

Everything runs locally, so your artwork never leaves your device. For single images, use Pixel Art Studio. It shares the same editor without the animation tools.
