Draw a Polygon on a Map and Get Its Coordinates

Click around an area to draw a polygon, then copy its corner coordinates in the format you need: “lat, lng” lines, GeoJSON or WKT.

Loading map editor…

Coordinate formats

Select the polygon and use the copy buttons in the panel:

Copy lat, lng — one corner per line, latitude first (the order Google Maps uses). The closing point is not repeated:

51.503000, -0.187000
51.503000, -0.151000
51.511500, -0.151000
51.511500, -0.187000

Copy GeoJSON — longitude first, ring closed by repeating the first point:

{"type": "Polygon", "coordinates": [[[-0.187, 51.503], [-0.151, 51.503], [-0.151, 51.5115], [-0.187, 51.5115], [-0.187, 51.503]]]}

Copy WKT — for SQL databases such as PostGIS, MySQL, SQL Server or BigQuery:

POLYGON ((-0.187 51.503, -0.151 51.503, -0.151 51.5115, -0.187 51.5115, -0.187 51.503))

Choose the number of decimals under Export → Coordinate precision (6 decimals ≈ 10 cm).

Using the coordinates

  • PostGIS: ST_GeomFromText('POLYGON ((…))', 4326) or ST_GeomFromGeoJSON('…')
  • Google Maps JavaScript API: convert the lat, lng list into {lat, lng} objects for google.maps.Polygon
  • Leaflet / Mapbox / OpenLayers: use the GeoJSON directly

How to use it

  1. Find the area with the search box. The Polygon tool is already active.
  2. Click each corner, then click the first point (or press Finish) to close the polygon.
  3. In the panel, press Copy lat, lng, Copy GeoJSON or Copy WKT.
  4. Drag vertices to adjust — the coordinates update immediately.

Common Use Cases

  • Geofence coordinates for an app
  • Polygon queries in PostGIS or BigQuery
  • Defining a delivery zone in a backend
  • Coordinates for a Google Maps API polygon

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does GeoJSON show longitude first?
The GeoJSON standard (RFC 7946) orders positions as [longitude, latitude]. The “Copy lat, lng” button gives you latitude first if that’s what your tool expects.
Why is the first point repeated at the end?
GeoJSON and WKT polygons must be closed, so the last point equals the first. The lat, lng list leaves it out.
Can I type coordinates in instead of drawing?
Yes: paste GeoJSON or WKT into Import (or the GeoJSON tab) and it is drawn on the map.

Why use this tool?

  • lat/lng, GeoJSON and WKT formats
  • Adjustable precision
  • Real vertex editing
  • Undo/redo and autosave

Privacy

Your shapes and files stay in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap or Esri, and place searches go to OpenStreetMap Nominatim.
