GeoJSON Viewer – Open and View GeoJSON on a Map

Drop a GeoJSON file on the map, open it, or paste the text — the features appear on an interactive map with their properties, areas and lengths. Everything stays in your browser.

View GeoJSON without installing anything

GeoJSON is plain text, but a list of coordinates tells you little until you see it on a map. This viewer draws every geometry type — Point, LineString, Polygon (with holes), MultiPoint, MultiLineString, MultiPolygon and GeometryCollection — on OpenStreetMap or satellite imagery.

Three ways to load data

  1. Open a file (.geojson or .json). You can select several files at once.
  2. Drag and drop files onto the map.
  3. Paste GeoJSON into the GeoJSON tab and press Apply to map, or press Ctrl/⌘+V while the map is focused.

Click any feature to see its properties, area or length. The GeoJSON tab shows the data as text and checks it: problems such as unclosed rings, swapped latitude/longitude or wrong types are listed with their location in the file.

Private by design

Files are read by your browser; they are never uploaded. The only network requests are map tiles and, if you use the search box, the place search.

It's also an editor

Unlike a pure viewer you can fix things on the spot: move vertices, delete features, edit properties, and export the result as GeoJSON, KML, Shapefile or WKT.

How to use it

  1. Press “Open a GeoJSON file”, drop a file onto the map, or paste GeoJSON into the GeoJSON tab.
  2. The map zooms to your data. Switch to satellite imagery with the layers button.
  3. Click a feature to see its properties and measurements; use the list to jump between features.
  4. Press Validate in the GeoJSON tab to check the file for errors.

Common Use Cases

  • Checking an API response
  • Previewing data before loading it into a GIS
  • Showing a client where a boundary is
  • Inspecting properties of a large file

Frequently Asked Questions

How large a file can I open?
Files up to 100 MB are accepted. Tens of thousands of features work, but very large datasets make any browser map slower; the editor warns you above 5,000 features.
My data appears in the wrong place. Why?
Usually latitude and longitude are swapped, or the file uses a projected coordinate system instead of WGS84 degrees. The validator warns about out-of-range coordinates.
Can I view KML, GPX or Shapefiles too?
Yes. Import accepts KML, KMZ, GPX, zipped Shapefiles and WKT as well as GeoJSON.

Why use this tool?

  • All GeoJSON geometry types
  • Drag and drop, paste or open
  • Satellite and street maps
  • No upload — files stay on your device

Privacy

Your shapes and files stay in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap or Esri, and place searches go to OpenStreetMap Nominatim.
