GPX to GeoJSON Converter

Open a GPX file from a GPS device, Strava, Garmin or Komoot and get GeoJSON: tracks and routes become lines, waypoints become points — with the track length measured on the map.

Loading map editor…

How GPX is converted

  • Tracks (<trk>) become LineStrings — or MultiLineStrings when the track has several segments.
  • Routes (<rte>) become LineStrings.
  • Waypoints (<wpt>) become Points.
  • Names, descriptions and types become properties. Elevations are kept as the third coordinate, and point timestamps (and heart rate etc. when present) are kept in a coordinateProperties property, following the common togeojson convention.

Trim or simplify a track

Select the track to edit its vertices: drag points, delete GPS spikes with a right-click or long-press, or cut a piece out with the Cut tool. The length updates as you edit.

Where to get a GPX file

Strava: activity → ⋯ → Export GPX. Garmin Connect: activity → ⚙ → Export to GPX. Komoot: tour → Download → GPX. Most GPS units also save GPX directly.

How to use it

  1. Press “Open GPX file” (or drop it on the map).
  2. Check the track and waypoints; select the track to see its length.
  3. Press “Download GeoJSON”, or use Export for KML, Shapefile or WKT.

Common Use Cases

  • Putting a hike or ride on a website map
  • Loading GPS tracks into a database
  • Cleaning up GPS spikes before sharing
  • Converting tracks for Google Earth (via KML)

Frequently Asked Questions

Are timestamps kept?
Yes. Point times (and other per-point values like heart rate) are stored in the coordinateProperties property of the line.
Can I convert several GPX files at once?
Yes. Select several files together; their features are combined on one map and exported in one file.
Can I convert GeoJSON back to GPX?
Not yet. You can export KML, which Garmin BaseCamp, Google Earth and many apps can open.
